Immanuel Richter (trumpet, Switzerland) is Professor of Trumpet at the Zurich University of the Arts. He studied at the Zurich Conservatory with Claude Rippas, earning all of his final diplomas (pedagogical, orchestral, and concert performance) with distinction. He further refined his artistry in masterclasses with Håkan Hardenberger, Pierre Thibaud, Allen Vizzutti, and Maurice André, and has been a prizewinner in numerous competitions.
Immanuel Richter has served as principal trumpet in several major orchestras, including the Zurich Opera Orchestra, the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana. For three years, he was principal trumpet of the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, performing under conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Lorin Maazel, Georges Prêtre, Daniele Gatti, Riccardo Chailly, and Gustavo Dudamel.
From 2009 to 2025, he was principal trumpet of the Basel Symphony Orchestra and also appeared as guest principal trumpet with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Alongside his orchestral career, he has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician.
Since 2008, he has taught classical trumpet at the Lucerne School of Music, and from the summer of 2025, he serves as Professor at the Zurich University of the Arts.
Immanuel Richter regularly gives individual and group trumpet masterclasses at the prestigious BrassWeek Samedan in Switzerland, serves as a jury member at competitions, and shares his expertise with young musicians from around the world.
